Sizing Step 1: Before measuring, consider your hairstyle as you would wear it with your hat, as the difference between wearing your hair down versus braids or ponytails can change your headsize considerably. You will measure over your chosen hairstyle using a flexible measuring tape. Step 2: Next, it will be helpful to stand in front of a mirror to easily see and adjust the tape as well as read the measurement. Place the measuring tape around the head just above the eyebrows, ears, and around the fullest point of the occipital lobe at the back of your head. Adjust the measuring tape until it is comfortably snug and then read the measurement in inches. This measurement is your Headsize.
The average headsize for women is 22 ½ inches. Use our Headsize Equivalence chart to give you an idea of where you are. | Inches | 21 | 21 ¼ | 21 ½ | 21 ¾ | 22 | 22 ¼ | 22 ½ | 22 ¾ | 23 | 23 ¼ | 23 ½ | 23 ¾ | 24 | | Alpha | XXS | | XS | | S | | M | | L | | XL | | XXL | To avoid ordering errors, triple check your measurements.
Care Instructions StorageYour hat should be stored when not being worn on a daily basis. The best method for storing your hat is in a hat box. Inside the hat box, your hat should have its crown gently stuffed with acid-free tissue paper and the brim should also rest on a soft bed of acid-free tissue paper so that the weight of the hat is not on the brim. Store the hat brim side down and crown side up. It is recommended not to store more than one hat in a hat box so you won't accidentally mar the felt, crease the straw, or squash the trimmings. Additionally, we recommend our lavender sachets for each hat box for their lovely scent and as a natural moth repellent. Hat Maintenance For general maintenance of our hats, We recommend an air duster, a lint roller and a hat brush. The air duster is indispensable for removing dust and lint from creases and detailed areas on your hat. The lint roller is perfect for lifting the nap of felts as well as removing dust and lint. For longer pile naps such as the beaver or salome finish, the hat brush will smooth the grain of the nap. To brush your felt hat, start at the center of the crown and work your way outward to the brim using crescent shaped strokes working counter clockwise. If you wear your felt hat in rainy weather, we recommend that you use an umbrella for heavy rains or extended periods in the rain. It certainly will not harm your felt hat if worn in light rain for a short while, but there are special care instructions should your hat get wet. For velour and sueded finish felt hats, you will want to wick away the moisture from the surface with a tissue or cloth being sure not to press the cloth into the felt and then give the hat a good brush. For flat, beaver, and salome finish felt hats just give them a good brush. Allow your hat to dry in it's original shape without any dents, creases, or other imperfections as these would become permanent once the felt dries. Allow your hat to dry naturally without forced air. Straw hats may be dusted with air or a hat brush at your discretion. Straw hats should not be worn in the rain. Rules - Do not let other people try on your hat, not only is it bad etiquette, they can bust stitches or alter the shape of the hat if their headsize is larger than yours.
- Only touch your hat with clean and dry hands.
- Do not place hat on its brim without the support of tissues beaneath it; it may flatten or lose its curvature, especially when it is wet.
