Custom Design

Ava Hansen Millinery uses only the finest of materials for her designs ensuring a lifetime of enjoyment. Acknowledging that hats of this pedigree are an investment, Ava guides her clients through several processes to ensure a perfect fit, style, and satisfaction. Each custom hat begins with a design consultation where you will meet Ava personally at her studio and discuss design details over tea. Ava will start by personally taking your measurements. You will have been requested to bring your garment(s) and/or fabric to serve as an indicator of your personal style and as a match for color. Next you will try on hat shapes and look at designs to determine the hat shape. Once selected, you will choose from a variety of different materials which the hat will be made from; whether it is lustrous fur felt, supple straw, lovely silk, velvet, or a multitude of other materials, the choice is yours. The next step will be to determine your trim preferences; Ava has an exquisite collection of antique millinery trims and can also design new trims to suit your desires. After the order is commenced, Ava will make the hat to your specifications. For elaborate designs a second fitting is often conducted and final trimmings are confirmed with you. The lead time is eight weeks from date of order, so plan ahead for your special events.

Millinery Classes

Currently a Structured Fabric Hat Class is offered. In this class you will block a crown and design your own brim using patternmaking methods and foundation materials. You will then use your chosen fabric to cover the hat and trim to your preference. Class size is limited to 4 people. Schedule a class for you and your friends today!

Presentations 

Demo Presentations are offered in the Portland Metro area to groups interested in traditional hatmaking techniques and the history of hats. Email Ava to schedule for your next event! 

Hat Soiree's

Private showings of Ava Hansen Millinery hats are available in the Portland Metro area for you and your guests hosted by you in your home. The Soiree will consist of a presentation about the history of hats, how they're made, information about the line, and an opportunity to try on the hats and see beautiful vintage trims. All the hats will be available for purchase and orders and each Hat Soiree Hostess will receive a gift and special incentives. It is a delightful evening and a great experience with accompanied by tea and chocolates or even champagne and hor'deurves. Email Ava to schedule your Hat Soiree.
